For Netflix’s film The Beautiful Game, Mike Delaney was tasked with creating football choreography that blended sports and drama. The story follows England’s homeless football team as they compete in the Homeless World Cup, with a deeper narrative about teamwork and second chances.
Shot on location in Rome, with additional scenes in North London, this project required realistic and compelling football action. Mike worked closely with director Thea Sharrock, as well as stars Bill Nighy and Michael Ward. He collaborated with all of the football cast, including the original homeless World Cup teams, before working with body doubles to ensure each sequence was authentic and seamlessly integrated into the film. His expertise in football choreography, combined with his ability to adapt to the dynamic set, was key to the project’s success.
